We are now recruiting for a Design Engineer to join our Engineering team.
You will work as part of a team in the specification and development of Allied Vehicles’ current range of Minibus, Taxi and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle conversions (WAV’s). This will include design, research & development, prototyping, creation of BoM’s and the updating of necessary documentation, including project plans. Reporting directly to the Design Engineering Manager and collaborating with Procurement, Production and Fabrication teams on all new design projects to ensure that all products are fit for purpose and in line with Company Standards and Methods of Manufacture.
You will work 37.5-hours per week over 4 days, Monday-Thursday with flexible start and finishing times between 7am and 6pm and the salary is up to £45k DOE.

The main duties of the role are:
- To assist with the research and development of innovative solutions for the companies planned new products to enhance their current product range.
- To create and maintain 3D models and 2D CAD for new designs and support of existing product range.
- To research new materials and technologies
- To create design concepts for new product offerings and communicate and review stage.
- To create prototypes of new concepts and verify designs with Production and Procurement teams.
- Carry out testing as required on prototype designs.
- Work on accessories through to complete new vehicle product design.
- Manage projects to meet specification, cost and timeline requirements.
- Provide technical support for products and production.
- To consider potential warranty implication of any new designs
To be effective in this role, you will have:
- Have previous experience of working in an automotive/manufacturing environment in a similar role.
- Have a proven track record of undertaking designs from concept through to production ready models.
- Have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Automotive, Aeronautical, Materials technology or Product Design)
- Have prior experience with sheet metal fabricating.
- Be proficient in the use of 3D CAD packages.
Previous experience of working in a WAV/Bus/Coachbuilding role would be advantageous but is not essential.
